GENERAL PHILOSOPHY SOURCES (WITH MATERIAL ON GREEK PHILOSOPHY
AND PHILOSOPHERS)

Guide
to Philosophy on the Internet
Professor Peter Suber’s quietly magnificent directory is
on every bit as impressive as its more flamboyant kindred sites, such as
Episteme Links and Philosophy in Cyberspace.

Episteme Links
http://www.arrowweb.com/philo/

Tom Stone’s Episteme Links is striking, compelling, user-friendly
and very helpful, but lately the advertising is competing with the philosophy
for space and light.

Philosophy
in Cyberspace

http://www-personal.monash.edu.au/~dey/phil/

From Monash University, a wonderful site arranged into
five major arcana of categories. Beautiful interface, now with inspirational
Pegasus flying overhead. A pleasure to use this one.

Bjorn’s Guide to Philosophy

http://www.knuten.liu.se/~bjoch509/

A longtime favorite of many cyberphilosophophiles.
The Web master, Bjorn Christensson, however, is of late understandably
tired out and over committed, and therefore hasn’t been able to update
the site as he had done for so long. It is still to be taken seriously,
however. And there is a chance he will resume work on it this summer.

FILOSOFIA-PHILOSOPHY-FILOSOFIA

Stanford Encyclopedia
of Philosophy
http://plato.stanford.edu/
A longstanding new tradition of excellence. An ongoing dynamic
encyclopedia- the authors of each article stay up-to-the-minute regarding
research on their topics. If they feel it necessary, they will amend or
rewrite the articles. Very thorough and also forward looking
.
The Internet Encyclopedia of
Philosophy
A great first-stop for any initial investigation into virtually
any philosopher or school of philosophy, ancient or modern.
Voice of
the Shuttle
UCSB English Professor Alan Liu’s groundbreaking humanities
resource compendium is virtually (no pun intended) the first of its kind.
The Voice of the Shuttle’s continual growth and Professor Liu’s meticulous
maintenance of the site ensures that it will not be surpassed – or even
equalled within the remainder our the slowtime interface. Here I link only
the philosophy page. That alone will give first-time visitors an inkling
of its magnitude. But only an inkling. Use the philosophy page frequently
and well, but travel around in there too. It rewards itself every time.
(Professor Alan Liu and Professor James
J. O’Donnell
[of the University of Pennsylvania] are my Humanities/Internet
heroes – and I don’t say that lightly or without reason. You will be encountering
more of those reasons-about both of these scholars- not infrequently. We’ll
be seeing more of Professor O’Donnell’s Web presence on the Latin-centered
resources for this seminar.]

The
English Server, Carnegie Mellon University
http://english-www.hss.cmu.edu/philosophy/
This is a very important and very rich site. Any one in any manner connected
with humanities research will find amazing avenues of inquiry here. Go
there and wander around, after you have sampled the list of philosophical
texts on line that they maintain at the url given here. Then go play.
